A $2,500 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for a hit and run accident that led to the death of a Philadelphia woman.

The Citizens Crime Commission and the Cheltenham Township Police Department announced the reward Nov. 19, posted by AAA Mid-Atlantic, seeking the public’s assistance for any information on the driver and or the car that left the scene of what now is a fatal hit and run.

The accident occurred around 8:38 p.m. Oct. 27 when Judy Paul, 55, of the 6200 block of North 15th Street, was crossing the 8200 block of Ogontz Avenue with her family to catch a bus at the SEPTA bus loop.

A Cheyenne woman accused of fleeing the scene after hitting a CSU student on his bicycle earlier this month later confessed to two friends, police say.

Fort Collins police also recovered Amanda Mae Miller’s white Infiniti sedan with damage consistent with the collision, according to her arrest documents.

Miller, 31, was arrested Friday, more than a week after the Nov. 6 crash, in which Colorado State University student Michael Alexander Patterson, 21, suffered serious injuries, according to police. Patterson’s father, Bill Patterson, said Tuesday that his son is recovering from a skull fracture and blood clot, and they hope he’ll return to school next semester.

“His progress is pretty remarkable, considering the injuries,” said Bill Patterson of Colorado Springs.

The motorist suspected of running over a young boy and driving away from the scene last week has stepped forward, Oakdale police said Monday night.

ROCK HILL, S.C. — Family members said it was a miracle Josh Reynolds of Rock Hill lived to see his 23rd birthday.

Reynolds suffered a brain injury, collapsed lung and broken bones after a hit-and-run driver slammed into his motorcycle on May 8. The crash happened at Celanese and Mount Gallant roads in Rock Hill about 9 p.m.

On Tuesday, 25-year-old Jeremy Mobley was sent to prison for 10 years for the hit-and-run crash. That’s double the recommended sentence that both the prosecutor and defense had agreed to.

“I’m sorry. I wish I could take it all back. I made a bad decision,” Mobley said before his sentence was handed down.

Hit-and-run suspect Megan Panowicz will not be allowed to use expert witnesses to support the insanity defense she plans to implement at her trial, a judge ruled Tuesday.

In August, attorneys for Panowicz said she plans to claim post-traumatic stress disorder clouded her judgment of “right and wrong” following a fatal vehicle crash in Kingston in August 2008.

Kingston police say Panowicz, 27, of Forty Fort, was the first of three drivers to hit and run over 32-year-old Kingston resident Sharon Shaughnessy as she tried to cross Wyoming Avenue. Panowicz then fled, police allege.

MIDDLEBORO — Police arrested a UMass-Dartmouth student on Wednesday in the Oct. 11 hit and run crash that killed bicyclist Michael Dutra, a 58-year-old father of two from Middleboro.

Eric Megna, 18, of 59 Chadderton Way, Middleboro, was arrested in connection with a fatal hit and run in Middleboro, police said.

According to a news release from Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy Cruz, Megna, a student at UMass-Dartmouth, struck Dutra on Wood Street. Rather than stopping to help him, he fled to New Hampshire, where his family owns a vacation home, the release stated.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Springfield police say they have made an arrest in Sunday’s fatal hit and run accident near the Missouri State University campus.

Zachary S. Gibson, 23, was hit by a car as he bicycled across Kimbrough at Bear Blvd about 6:45 Sunday evening. Witnesses told police the white colored car drove off after hitting Gibson, who died from his injuries.

Police got a tip and found the car Monday in Springfield.

“It was like watching a scene out of a movie and you’re asking yourself, ‘Am I really seeing this? Is this really happening before my eyes?’ It was horrible,” said witness Beth Bryant.

BOYLE HEIGHTS (CBSLA.com) — City and county officials Wednesday were each offering $50,000 rewards for anyone with information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for killing a probation officer on his motorcycle during a hit-and-run.

Kenneth Hamilton, 54, was leaving his job at the Eastlake Juvenile Facility around 6 a.m. on Oct. 28 when he was hit at the intersection of Soto Street and Lancaster Avenue in Boyle Heights.

He died instantly, the Los Angeles Police Department said.

A forgotten backpack and a twice-convicted drunken driver played leading roles in a hit-and-run accident that left two Salinas women dead and a young man facing double murder charges.

Francisco Miranda Jr., 23, of Salinas was arrested after his mother persuaded him to return to an intersection Wednesday night where he allegedly ran over a just-released patient and a hospital security guard in front of Natividad Medical Center. Both died within minutes.

The hospital guard, Linda Rascon Williams, 24, had followed the patient out of the hospital emergency room to return a backpack the woman had left behind.

When the woman fell onto the pavement on East Laurel Drive, Williams came to her aid and knelt beside her. That’s when police said a Ford Taurus allegedly driven by Miranda ran over both of them.

EWING — A Ewing woman admitted today that she misled police at the scene of a fatal hit-and-run accident in 2011 in exchange for a plea deal that will spare her from serving jail time.

EWING — A Ewing woman admitted yesterday that she misled police at the scene of a fatal hit-and-run accident in 2011, in exchange for a plea deal that will spare her from serving jail time.

Marie Jean, 54, was on her way to work on Parkside Avenue in Ewing on at 10:30 p.m. on Oct. 28, 2011, when she struck a man who was laying in the roadway. Jean’s car was the second vehicle to strike Carl Wilkins, 54, of Trenton, who died at the scene.

BELLINGHAM, Wash. — A 29-year-old Custer man is in jail on $500,000 bail after police said he critically injured a Ferndale woman in a hit-and-run.

Bellingham police said Emma Briceno, 25, a mother of three young children, was badly injured at the intersection of East Chestnut Street and Railroad Avenue.

They said Cory Mezo was driving with a “total indifference” to human life, doing donuts at another intersection before he ran a red light and hit a car just before 2 a.m.

Police say he careened into Briceno as she walked in a marked crosswalk. She flew into the windshield and over the vehicle.

SPRINGFIELD — A 25-year-old Springfield man who allegedly shaved his head in an attempt to change his appearance and avoid arrest was detained today and charged with multiple offenses, including driving under the influence of intoxicants and hit and run, police said.

And I quote (V)…

Authorities believe Shannon R. Smith, 31, struck the bicyclist while driving 85 mph through an intersection. But, police are investigating extenuating circumstances.

Smith was arrested in Buffalo two days later, court documents say, and she had dyed her hair in an effort to conceal her identity. She told police she was driving so fast because she was being chased by her ex-boyfriend.

That ex-boyfriend was later identified as 24-year-old Blake Basten.

The American Automobile Association Foundation for Traffic Safety estimates that roughly 11 percent of all police-reported crashes involve a hit-and-run, and, shockingly, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has concluded that approximately 18 percent — or nearly one in five — pedestrian fatalities are caused by hit-and-run drivers.

The hit-and-run driver who struck and killed a newly engaged student on Milwaukee’s east side in August was sentenced Tuesday to 12 years in prison, followed by 10 years of supervised release.

A man accused of running over two teen girls – including one pregnant with his child – and seriously injuring them both, surrendered to police, officials said Wednesday.

Miguel Angel Jimenez, 18, was taken into custody in connection with the hit-and-run, police said.

Brickhouse, of the 500 block of Cherokee Street, said he did not dispute the charges but did not immediately accept responsibility in court. He claimed he had no memory of the crash.

“Somebody got hit and I was in the area,” Brickhouse said.

Koury refused the plea under those circumstances, saying he could not legally accept it if Brickhouse denied responsibility. He spelled out the allegations against Brickhouse and asked him if admitted to them. Brickhouse said he would, but he shook his head as he spoke.

A San Pedro man who grabbed his 4-year-old daughter from a crosswalk moments before a car hit them both is hoping someone comes forward to help police find the driver, who sped away without stopping.

Armando Melchor, 29, and his daughter, Alisson, were thrown onto the car’s hood as they walked their dog late Friday just blocks from their home.

The girl hit her head and her father was hit in the back. They both were treated at a hospital, but fortunately their injuries were not serious. The driver, Melchor said, chose not to stop and find out how they were.

“I am angry. I can’t do anything. I’m frustrated,” he said. “He doesn’t care. I don’t know. I want to catch him.”

WESTFIELD — Allison says Queena is her kindred spirit. Queena says she and Allison talk about everything.

“She’s like a sister to me,” Queena says.

This Friday Queena and Allison are having a belated Thanksgiving dinner at Allison’s mother’s Westfield home.

The conversation will likely cover how Allison is doing at Oberlin College, how Queena’s job as a nurse at Holy Name Medical Center in Teaneck is going, and undoubtedly, how the two met more than a year ago, when Queena found Allison on the side of the road, bleeding from a massive head wound.

On July 17, 2012, Allison Lowenstein was jogging in Harriman State Park in New York. She was 21, working as a counselor at Camp Homeward Bound, a camp for homeless children, and ran every day on Seven Lakes Drive before the homeless children the camp serves arrived.

She was training hard for her college cross-country team, running up to eight miles a day. Nothing stood out about the run. But she never finished it.

“I don’t remember seeing a car coming at me or seeing anything or experiencing anything, because either everything was happening so fast that I got hit, and then right away my mind was unable to form memories about it and actually experience it, or the blow wiped out any memory of those couple of minutes and the couple of weeks that followed,” Allison told NJ.com.

An Ogdensburg man has been extradited from Arizona and charged in connection with the August hit-and-run death of a 19-year-old Lancaster man.

State police arrested Devin B. Ferguson-Brenno, 26, of 209 Gilbert St., on Tuesday and charged him with second-degree vehicular manslaughter, leaving an accident resulting in death and tampering with physical evidence, all felony charges; second-degree obstruction of governmental administration and driving while intoxicated, both misdemeanors; and multiple traffic violations.

In Long Beach, police are hoping public awareness and a family’s plea will help curb the number of hit-and-run crashes, which have reached 188 so far this year.

Detectives worked Tuesday to find the drivers who fled the scenes of the city’s latest hit and runs, which happened less than 2 miles from each other, and less than a week apart.

Trooper Justin Summa at the Fogelsville barracks said he’s received one call — which he said is surprising considering how much traffic is normally in that area — since asking for the public’s help.

The 24-year-old man charged with crashing into a mother holding her 18-month-old, killing the toddler, hid from police in a crawl space in his house and later cried when he admitted to investigators that he was the driver, according to a criminal complaint released Tuesday.

Thomas Antonio Walker III is charged with hit and run resulting in death, operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license causing death and hit and run causing injury. If convicted of all charges, Walker could face a maximum sentence of 31 years and nine months in prison.

A south Salt Lake City family says they regret showing mercy after they wrote a letter that they had been told may have kept an 18-year-old burglar from being deported.

In 2012, Deryk Robledo was arrested in connection with the burglary of a south Salt Lake City home. The parents of Robledo told the victims that their then, 18-year-old son was in the US.

Robledo’s parents asked that the victims write a letter to the court asking for leniency. David, who asked us not to identify him, says he did just that.

Then fast forward to this weekend, when police arrested that same teenager for allegedly hitting and killing 75-year-old Gerano Zargoza-Valencia. Police say after Rebledo hit the man he sped away then tucked his damaged 2001 BMW in the garage of his in-laws where he was living at the time.

Joseph Browning, 18, was struck by a car Friday at the intersection of Dodson Run Road and U.S. Route 219 outside Beverly.

Jackie Simmons, an eye-witness at the scene, told The Inter-Mountain Tuesday that the relative said Browning pushed him out of the path of the car.

“My sister and I had come up after (the accident) had happened and stopped to help and called 911,” Simmons said by phone.

According to Simmons, the boy said he and Browning were walking on the side of the road when the car appeared. The boy told her Browning pushed him out of the way of the vehicle and instead was struck himself, she said.

“He pushed (the relative) out of the way so that he wouldn’t be struck by the car,” Simmons said. “He was acting as a hero.”

The City Council committee room fell silent Wednesday when Patrick Dominguez, Dante Dominguez’s brother testified with his two brothers beside him.

“When our brother was killed, we felt like we had nobody,” Patrick Dominguez said. “I just want something to be done, if not for us, then at least for other people.”

Dominguez and several street-safety advocates spoke in support of a bill that would require the police department to report on the steps its officers take to investigate hit-and-run accidents.

The new bill would require NYPD to provide council with biannual reports on investigations of hit-and-run accidents that result in serious injury or death. The bill’s supporters said investigations lack immediate attention, leading to the failure of catching the wrongdoers.

An aide to Congresswoman Lois Capps is in jail following a hit and run crash in Santa Barbara that left a woman in critical condition.

It happened just after midnight on Friday in the 500 block of Anacapa Street.

Santa Barbara police say the driver, Raymond Morua, 32, struck the 27-year old woman, but kept going. Witnesses say he stopped briefly to look back at the scene, but drove off.

A Franklin County man faces criminal charges after his truck’s manure spreader ran over and injured a pedestrian at Ag Progress Days this summer.

Scott Ridenour, 36, of Greencastle, allegedly left the scene of the Aug. 15 crash on the grounds of Ag Progress Days in Ferguson Township and did not report it to police, according to the charging document Penn State police filed this week.

Instead, police said, Ridenour called his employer, who advised him to keep going.

Police said the pedestrian suffered a broken hip from the crash, but police didn’t identify the person.

The crash happened as the pedestrian was knocked to the ground by the manure spreader’s tires, which then ran over the person’s foot and caused the injuries.

All investigators have is a mirror that snapped off during the impact.

Action News had learned that mirror could belong to a number of different trucks and SUVs. Manning said she was just informed by police Thursday that their search is going cold.

“They had made contact with about 95 percent of the vehicles that fit the description in the county,” said Manning.

We first told you that a gold pickup was the vehicle in question. Now we’re told the truck could be any color. Police said tips are still coming in and word this week that the reward has been increased to $6,000 has the family praying someone will speak up.

“Just do the right thing. We’re not out for revenge; we just want closure and to understand why,” said Manning.

Until last Tuesday night, Jose Bolorinos was living the San Francisco dream. An honors economics graduate from Cal, the 25-year-old was working at a data management firm on the Peninsula and living in the Haight.

“About 8:50 he called and said he had some food and was on his way home,” said his twin brother, John, who has been staying at Jose’s apartment while looking for a job.

But as the minutes stretched into half an hour, John became concerned. Then he recalled that he’d seen an ambulance in front of the apartment and he’d watched someone on a stretcher being loaded aboard.

“I waited about 45 minutes and then I called 911, and they confirmed what happened,” he said.

Jose had been struck by a late-’90s, silver, four-door sedan as he stepped off the curb at Oak and Scott. Witnesses told police the car ran one, and perhaps two, traffic lights before hitting Bolorinos. The collision broke Jose’s leg and caused severe brain injury. The driver never stopped.

They said in a release that driving while intoxicated charges will likely be added.

Fatal hit and runs have become so common in South Florida that at least one state lawmaker is asking for stiffer sentences to try to stem them.

Statistics show that deadly hit and runs occur nearly once a week in the tri-county area.

Alarmed by an increase in such crashes, state Sen. Miguel Diaz de la Portilla, R-Miami, has introduced legislation that would impose tougher mandatory sentences on guilty drivers.

The law also would close what some analysts call a “punishment gap” between two Florida laws. Under current state statutes, drivers in DUI crashes that kill someone face a harsher penalty than drivers who leave the scene of a deadly accident.

“There is an incentive to flee and show up later when the alcohol clears the system,” said Diaz de la Portilla, saying the legislation would address the disparities. “The law should not make it easier on you because you left the scene.”

GOOSE CREEK, S.C. (WCIV) — A Joint Base Charleston firefighter and his wife were charged in a DUI after the car police say he was driving hit a 14-year-old girl on Sunday afternoon in the couple’s neighborhood.

According to the Goose Creek Police Department, 50-year-old Robert Semashko and his wife, 53-year-old Donna Semashko, were charged in the accident that sent the 14-year-old girl to Medical University Hospital.

Police said Root’s genitals were exposed and Slayton was smoking a salvia blunt.

MIDDLETOWN >> Now a year on from a hit-and-run accident that left a Clinton teen dead, city police have still not been able to close their investigation.

The Middletown Police Department said shortly after the December 2012 accident that they had video footage of the suspects and were moving toward a conclusion. Still, an arrest has not been made in connection with the accident that killed 15-year-old Cailyn Bassett a year ago.

Middletown police must wait for results from a state lab before they can finish a report on the accident, police spokeswoman Heather Desmond said Tuesday. Desmond said the department tentatively expected the results back toward the end of February. “It is out of our control because the items are at the state lab,” she said.

Bassett’s family, meanwhile, hopes for answers. “The longer it takes, the longer we have to sit on it and keep remembering and remembering,” said Cailyn’s father, Brian Bassett. “We’re going through the same thing we did last year.”

David Elliot, 26, who gave a Columbus, Ohio, address, was booked into Montgomery County Jail on Saturday on a charge of vehicular homicide, according to a Clarksville Police Department news release. Jail records show he also was charged with DUI, driving on a revoked license and failure to immediately notify authorities of a motor vehicle accident.

The release also identified the victim as 21-year-old Pfc. Austin McReynolds, who had been at O’Connors Irish Pub and Grill, 1198 Tylertown Road, and was walking east on Tylertown Road for an unknown reason. The incident occurred sometime between 2:30 and 2:45 a.m., the release said.

Fort Lauderdale Police arrested 27-year-old Axel Esteban Inostroza Monday for allegedly hitting a bicyclist with his car, driving away and trying to dispose of the body in a wooded area.

FLPD said the accident happened on the 5200 block of NE 18th Avenue around 6:30 a.m. Monday. Investigators said the Inostroza’s 2003 Ford Mustang hit the cyclist, Craig Camlin, 63, sending him onto the windshield of the vehicle, rolling over the roof and landing on the back window.

A neighbor’s friend heard an odd noise at the time of the accident.

“She just heard like a thump, but not an impact,” said neighbor Tom Karrmenn. “She heard screeching and was waiting for an impact like hitting a car or something and never heard it.”

Fort Lauderdale Police said the driver was “fully aware” of the crash and did not stop. Police said Inostroza drove two miles with Camlin on his back window until he reached his home in Pompano Beach.

A judge dropped the charges against him after reviewing the grand jury minutes, saying there was not enough evidence to support the charges.

Dies was hit by a drunk driver just after midnight on December 6 as she crossed Anacapa Street with a group of friends. She suffered severe head trauma in the collision and was taken off life support five days later. The driver, Raymond Morua, fled the scene and was arrested a few blocks away when he crashed his car. Police said his blood-alcohol level at the time was more than twice the legal limit.

Wingate was on patrol at about 10 Christmas morning when a car matching the description of the hit-and-run vehicle passed him near Anna Sayles and Old River roads. Gould said Wingate noticed that the vehicle, a silver 1993 Buick Century, had front-end damage consistent with that given by witnesses who allegedly saw Richmond run down as she was attempting to walk across Front Street in a marked crosswalk last Saturday night.

After passing Wingate’s cruiser, the Buick ducked into the business park opposite Lincoln High School. Wingate pulled his cruiser into the parking lot of the high school, where one of the roads leading from the business park exits.

When Vierra pulled out of the exit road, he saw the cruiser waiting for him, according to Gould. From that point on, Wingate found Vierra’s behavior peculiar.

Vierra didn’t drive off, as if he has someplace else to go, Gould said. Instead, he drove toward Wingate’s cruiser, stopped and immediately starting talking to the officer about the hit-and-run.

Vierra didn’t admit to any criminal behavior, but when Wingate asked a few questions about the pedestrian accident his answers led the officer to believe that he may have been responsible.

“There were some good interview questions on the part of the officer that led Mr. Vierra to give some answers that didn’t add up,” said Gould. “The suspect was taken to police headquarters, where he became cooperative in the investigation.”

A pizza delivery driver who sped away from a Plymouth crash last year that left a pedestrian with critical injuries will spend up to 18 months in prison, a judge ruled Thursday.

Police said a panicked Andrew W. Mudrowsky initially told people he hit a garbage bag on East Main Street on April 21, 2012, but the damage on his car was clear: a smashed driver’s side windshield speckled with blood, skin and hair.

Mudrowsky worked as a delivery driver at Classic Pizza in nearby Larksville at the time of the crash, and his supervisors called police to report he was the likely suspect because his car was damaged and he was acting “nervous,” arrest papers say.

The dead man, Paul Allen Vaughn, was caught in the wheels and dragged about 65 feet before coming loose. A 52-year-old homeless Tampa man, Vaughn died at the scene.

Vaughn’s friend, 51-year-old Joseph F. Lack Jr., also homeless, suffered only minor injuries, as the vehicle’s undercarriage only grazed him.

At 1:20 a.m. on Nov. 7, 2011, Kimberly Esparza Robles was walking home with her husband when she was hit by a sport utility vehicle on the 10900 block of Pebble Hills Boulevard near Lee Treviño Drive, police said. The SUV, which was heading east, did not stop. Esparza died at the scene.

Police said the SUV, which was only described as dark colored, received damage to its front.

Gogoy, 57, died Dec. 22 after being struck by a vehicle in the southbound lanes of Route 206 in Sandyston in a hit-and-run accident.

According to New Jersey State Police spokesman Sgt. Brian Polite, as of Saturday night, the incident is still under investigation.

More than 40 years after he first learned to walk, Gregory Adams is doing so again after a hit-and-run crash broke both his legs.

Police say in September a vehicle hit him in a Tacoma crosswalk and fled, leaving him with potentially life-threatening injuries.

Adams, 45, is anxious to walk again, which would allow him to get back to his lawn care business and to his family.

“It’s not as fast as I would like, but it’s coming along,” he said recently. “My bones have been healed, but I’m still unable to stand and walk. I have to get around in a wheelchair.”

A vehicle described by witnesses as a large white SUV hit Adams Sept. 8 near South 86th and Hosmer streets, throwing him about 50 feet before it swerved to avoid hitting him again after he had landed in the street, Tacoma police said. The SUV then kept on going.

No suspects have been identified, police spokeswoman Loretta Cool said.

A 21-year-old Lufkin woman turned herself into authorities Tuesday afternoon in connection to a Christmas Day hit-and-run accident in which a bicyclist was struck and killed by an automobile on Chestnut Drive.

According to a press release from the Lufkin Police Department, Jennifer Isabel Mireles turned herself in at the Angelina County Jail at approximately 1:45 p.m. Tuesday. She was charged with accident involving death, a second-degree felony.

A bicyclist who was struck in a hit-and-run collision in Panorama City last week has died, officials said Tuesday.

The victim was described only as a 56-year-old man.

David Pregerson, 23, was hit by an unknown driver Dec. 27 about 3 a.m. on Chautauqua Boulevard north of Borgos Place. The driver never stopped to render aid and the UCLA graduate was found by a passerby on the tree-lined residential street. Pregerson succumbed to his numerous injuries at UCLA Medical Center on Dec. 31.

Since graduating from UCLA, Pregerson had begun working on movies and television shows, including the Web-based soap opera series “The Bay.” He was the son of U.S. District Court Judge Dean Pregerson and grandson of U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals Judge Harry Pregerson.

Three teens were walking along Mountain Road near Alvin Drive on the night of April 12, 2013 when two were injured after being struck by an SUV.

Fifteen-year-old Skylar Marion was pronounced dead at the Maryland Shock Trauma Center while his 13-year-old friend was treated at the Johns Hopkins Children’s Center. Another 13-year-old girl was not injured.

Skylar’s heart was transplanted to another Pasadena teenager, Kyle Wilkerson, who suffered from life-threatening genetic idiopathic cardiomyopathy. Friends and families of both boys have held fundraisers for the reward fund and to support Wilkerson in his recovery.

Police say Kelley was walking when she was hit by a vehicle and left to die.

On Wednesday, the suspect from a hit-and-run accident that killed 33-year-old Tabitha Lynn Herriage Rodriguez contacted Longview police.

Longview police say the accident occurred on December 21, 2013 at approximately just after midnight in the 1600 block of South Green Street in Longivew. Witnesses say that Rodriguez was walking in the northbound lane of traffic when she was struck by a vehicle. The driver of the vehicle did not stop and drove away, headed northbound.

A judge reduced bonds Friday for several suspects charged in the fatal hit-and-run of New Orleans police officer Rodney Thomas. She declined to lower the bond of alleged driver of the white Porsche Panamera that struck and killed Thomas on the Interstate 10 high rise bridge on July 7. Yesterday, Assemblyman Mike Gatto introduced legislation mandating that any driver who commits a hit and run offense, even if the victim is not seriously injured, forfeit their driver’s license for six months. Gatto’s legislation is his second effort to criminalize hit and run crashes following last year’s Assembly Bill 184 which extended the statute of limitations for hit and run drivers.

“A.B. 1532 will give victims of hit-and-runs solace, knowing that cowards who drive recklessly, and purposefully avoid responsibility for their actions, are no longer driving the streets,” said Assemblyman Gatto. “This is a sensible fix to the law that will lead people to think twice before leaving the scene of an accident.”

The hit-and-run drunk driver who struck and killed Lake Havasu City resident Sandie Alger on July 29 in Havasu was sentenced to serve six years in prison.

Alger, 57, was the mother of City Councilwoman Crystal Alger.

Mohave County Deputy County Attorney Kim Aune said in an email that 22-year-old Jennifer Manley accepted a plea deal Thursday stipulating she pleaded guilty to manslaughter, categorized as a non-dangerous offense; and a DUI.

A former New Brunswick criminal defense attorney has been paroled from prison after serving more than a year for leaving the scene of a hit-and-run accident in June 2011 that seriously injured a teenager and letting his assistant take the blame.

Meanwhile, an appeals court affirmed disciplinary charges last week that were brought against John Koufos, 34, while he was still in prison.

Koufos, who also had offices in Long Branch before his arrest, was paroled in Oct. 17, months after he was given a six-year sentence by an Ocean County judge. It was part of a plea agreement that saw Koufos plead guilty to leaving the scene of an accident in Toms River, tampering with a witness and hindering his own apprehension.

Authorities said Koufos, a resident of Brick Township, was on his way from an Ocean County Bar Association gathering at Gabriella’s restaurant in Ortley Beach when he struck Kevin O’Brien, then 17, of Newtown, Pa., with his 2011 Lexus in the Silver Beach section of Toms River.

Koufos assistant, Craig Terlizzi, 40, of Brick, was initially charged in the hit-and-run. Terlizzi claimed he was operating the car around the time of the accident.

Sgt Daniel Valadas told 22News Dubay’s car hit several people including two grocery store employees as he drove out of the Big Y parking lot late Tuesday morning. The workers were not seriously hurt.

When Cooper was trying to hit a third pedestrian, police said she crashed her vehicle into a fence.

Irina Gardinant and Raisa Mosh’s matching caskets were set before a stage that was lined with bouquets including two arrangements — one for each woman — that spelled out “Mom.” Gardinant left behind a husband and 2-year-old daughter, while Mosh left behind a husband and four children, including the 12-year-old son who was with her at the time of the collision.

The two women were fatally injured when they were struck by a white pickup while crossing Vancouver Mall Drive around 8 p.m. on Jan. 19. The boy suffered minor injuries in the incident. The pickup drove away.

Patrick McMahon and his wife told KATU on Saturday that they’ll reach into their own pockets if someone gives information leading to an arrest and conviction of the hit-and-run suspect.

Their son, Conor, 20, was leaving a party in North Portland on January 1st when witnesses told police a minivan ran him over from behind.

“Somebody knows this person. Somebody knows what’s going on,” said Patrick, who has been caring for his son along with his wife since the accident. “It’s a senseless act and we feel obliged to bring this to the community attention.”

Conor dropped out of college in California and moved back in with his parents in S.W. Portland during his recovery.

He can’t walk. He spends all day in a hospital bed in their den.

His mind was not affected.

He seemed in good spirits during a talk with KATU on Saturday, although he asked that no pictures or video be taken of him. He’s missing many of his teeth and needs expensive dental care.

(WJBK) – Detroit Police release surveillance footage of the hit-and-run accident that killed Roderick Bridges, 23, a father of 7 back in November of 2013 in efforts to catch the driver responsible.

Roderick, one of his brothers and other relatives were at Jimmy’s Lounge on Kercheval Street in Detroit celebrating a niece’s birthday. Roderick was leaving when someone started shooting. Everyone started running, and he was run over.

Police released surveillance footage from the night of the incident, which suggests Roderick ducked for cover under the vehicle just moments before the car pulled away and ran him over.

An Oro Valley woman cited Saturday for hitting a pedestrian with her car, said she had a good reason to leave the scene and she returned less than 45 minutes later.

A High Point firefighter died after he was hit by a vehicle while riding his bicycle.

According to the city fire department, Fire Equipment Operator Todd Martinez died Sunday at Moses Cone Hospital from injuries.

Investigators have arrested Andrew Bray Barham. Troopers said that Barham was driving a red pick-up truck when the accident happened.

Officials say the incident happened near Scalesville Road and Mabe Marshall Road in Summerfield.

According to North Carolina State Trooper Chris Knox, Braham is charged with felony hit and run. He was released from jail on a $2,500 bond Monday.

Fire Chief Tommy Reid said in a statement on the fire department’s Facebook page:

“It is with a heavy heart that I have to notify you that FEO Todd Martinez has passed away at Moses Cone Hospital this evening through complications of a bicycle and vehicle collision. A man wanted in Brevard for skipping a court appearance in a misdemeanor death by motor vehicle case was arrested Tuesday in Orlando, Fla., where police say he now faces more charges.

Scott McCombs, 37, is accused of killing 58-year-old Jerry Morgan of Brevard in a hit-and-run accident in December 2012.

Sheriff David Mahoney said McCombs was scheduled to appear in court in December, but never showed. His absence kicked off a manhunt that ended Tuesday when he was picked up by the Orlando Police Department.

SAN DIEGO – City police is asking San Diego residents for help in tracking down a white Cadillac El Dorado that was involved in a fatal hit-and-run accident in North park that killed Seamus O’Bryan, 32, a prop master at The Old Globe.

“This car is a Cadillac Eldorado. It’s white or cream in color, 1998 to 2000 model, possibly minor front-end damage to the right front passenger section of the car,” SDPD Lt. Kevin Mayer told CBS 8 in San Diego.

To date, police have chased down dozens of leads to no avail.

BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) — Northeastern University student Victoria Grimes has spent the last week in agony, laying in a hospital bed, unable to walk.

“I have a concussion, a broken collarbone, stitches on my eyelid,” she said. “There’s a lot of fluid and blood built up in my leg so it’s really painful to move it at all.”

She was trying to hail a cab on Tremont Street near Cunard Street in Boston just after midnight last Saturday when she was hit by a driver who then took off. Victoria said she has no recollection of being hit.

“I woke up, I was in a hospital bed. I had a bunch of doctors and nurses around me,” she said.

Her boyfriend, Ben Alpert, watched as the whole thing happened.

“[The car] lifted her up above. She actually bounced off a parked car and took the entire side view mirror off,” Alpert said. “I was in shock. I ran to her. She was breathing, that’s the first thing I checked”

Victoria loves to run and plays lacrosse for Northeastern, but doctors say she won’t even be able to walk for four to six weeks.

“It’s a complete 180 from what my life was to what it is now,” she said.

Police have arrested a man accused of hitting three teens walking along a southwest Atlanta sidewalk late last month then driving away, authorities said.

Michael Turner, 31, was picked up Saturday by police and charged with hit-and-run, failure to exercise due care with pedestrians and driving without a valid license.

On Jan. 31, Mariah Key, 15, Dajah Malcom, 14, and Cedria Johnson, 16, were walking on Westmeath Drive, authorities said.

The three heard a car pull up behind them, and eventually the car hit them, police said.

Johnson was the only one of the three girls able to remain standing and conscious and told police what happened, describing the silver car that hit them, Atlanta police spokesman Sgt. Greg Lyon said.
